Web Applications Design – A process to make most out of online Web application
March 6, 2012Posted by on
Web applications are those which are dynamic in nature and are an interactive system that helps business to perform critical tasks and thereby web application helps to increase productivity of the business. It facilitates day today activity of business as an ease and there by increases overall efficiency of the management. Till date many don’t find any considerable difference between a Website design and a web application design, basically speaking there is huge difference between both. Web applications require end users to hold complete knowledge about the process of application to use it effectively, whereas in case of website such insights are not required.
Web application can range from online applications that are meant for anyone by creating a premium or free account to closed applications those are available only to staff members or a group of people as may be installed or are available only on intranet within the organization.
Here once you are clear with what you want to achieve through those Web application you should start collecting information about their end users. Basically you can achieve that either by employing several of available technique such as user interviews, business stakeholder interviews and even shadowing method of observation will prove effective to gather enough information about their end users.
Process which helps you to better design application
Here agile approach of designing may prove beneficial as it takes iterative approach into consideration. Each iteration consists of all phases defined by your process. So at the end of each iteration, you can have a product to get it tested.
Sketching can prove a powerful way to explore all possibilities. Here the basic intention is to arrive at a solution by sketching out different concepts. Here once you are convinced with any of possible sketch all you can do is create more detailed wireframes or may start with creating interactive prototypes of the same.
Once you are ready with the sketching process, all you can do is start creating prototypes of the same. Though the main intention here is only to test the possible outcome of that prototype designs. You can very well include some of functionality without bothering about possible bugs.
Once after prototype is ready you can start testing them by inviting few of selected people to test its usability level, all this information helps you to fix the final bugs. This will increase the performance level of any of said web application from user perspective.
